Promoting Language Assessment Literacy and Innovation for the Italian Language:
A three-day workshop on scenario-based assessment.

Prospective participants
The proposed activity is targeted towards language teachers, primarily those teaching Italian as a second language, but not exclusively. No specific knowledge or expertise in scenario-based assessment or language testing is required to participate.
The primary working language of the workshop is English, which is why an adequate level of proficiency in English is required of participants (B2 CEFR).
Description of the workshop
The workshop spans three days and is divided into two main components each day. The morning sessions consist of theoretical background seminars, while practical activities take place in the afternoon.
During the interactive workshop, teachers will be introduced to the theory and concepts underpinning scenario-based assessment, with a particular focus on essential foundations such as learning-oriented assessment and situated second language proficiency. The workshop will also explore the theory behind the development of each section of the assessment.
Practical activities conducted in groups will guide teachers in adapting the theory to the teaching and assessment of the Italian language, taking into account their specific working contexts. These activities will cover various aspects, including using scenario-based assessment to design Italian language curricula, implementing scenario-based assessment in the classroom, and utilizing technology for the development and construction of scenario-based assessment activities for Italian. The workshop will provide practical tips and develop support materials, such as PowerPoint presentations, videos, and online references, tailored to the specific needs of the participants.
The workshop offers an opportunity for teachers to connect with assessment experts and learn about innovative online techniques that can be applied within their own teaching contexts, supporting both learning and instruction.
Invited speaker
The invited speaker is Professor Emeritus James Enos Purpura (SBLA Lab, Teachers College, Columbia University, New York).

Costs
The cost of the workshop for all participants is 50 euro (including all materials and the farewell reception). The certificate of attendance is optional and can be requested for a cost of 16 euro, which is the cost of the revenue stamp required in Italy for issuing certificates.

Potenziali partecipanti
L’attività proposta è rivolta agli insegnanti di lingue, principalmente a quelli che insegnano l’italiano in contesto plurilingue. Per partecipare non sono richieste conoscenze o competenze specifiche sulla valutazione basata su scenari o di verifica e valutazione linguistica in generale.
La lingua veicolare principale per il workshop è l’inglese, per cui ai partecipanti è richiesto un livello adeguato di conoscenza della lingua inglese (B2 QCER).
Descrizione del workshop
Il workshop ha la durata di tre giorni ed è suddiviso ogni giorno in due momenti principali. Le sessioni del mattino prevedono seminari teorici di base, mentre le attività pratiche si svolgono nel pomeriggio.
Durante il workshop vengono presentati la teoria e i concetti che stanno alla base della valutazione basata su scenari, con particolare attenzione alla valutazione orientata all’apprendimento e alla “situated second language proficiency”. Il workshop esplora anche la teoria alla base dello sviluppo di ogni sezione di un test basato su scenari.
Le attività pratiche condotte in gruppo servono a guidare gli insegnanti verso l’adattamento di quanto esposto a livello teorico all’insegnamento e alla verifica e valutazione dell’italiano L2, tenendo conto degli specifici contesti di riferimento. Le attività riguardano vari aspetti, tra cui l’utilizzo della valutazione basata su scenari per la progettazione di curricoli di italiano L2, l’implementazione della valutazione basata su scenari in classe e l’utilizzo della tecnologia per lo sviluppo e la costruzione di attività di verifica e valutazione basate su scenari per l’italiano L2. Il workshop fornisce suggerimenti pratici e materiali di supporto, come presentazioni in PowerPoint, video e riferimenti online, adattati alle esigenze specifiche dei partecipanti.
Il workshop offre agli insegnanti l’opportunità di entrare in contatto con esperti in materia di valutazione e di conoscere tecniche online innovative che possono essere applicate nei diversi contesti didattici, a sostegno del processo di insegnamento/apprendimento.
